The New Found Farm weather station was installed on May 27, 2001. The weathercam was added on March 28, 2002. The weathercam originally looked southwest. Because of low sun in the winter months and the fact that the prevailing weather comes from the northwest, the camera was repositioned on November 9, 2003.

The Vantage Pro system consists of the console, remote sensor station, and Weatherlink™ software running on a networked PC. The Vantage Pro console communicates with the sensor station, which is approximately 125 feet way, about every 2 seconds. The data is stored in an internal data logger on the console, which stores several days worth of data, highs/lows, and averages at 5 minute intervals. The weather PC retrieves data from the data logger and stores it in an archive file on its local hard drive. My home server then extracts data from the weather PC archive and stores it in a MySQL database for retrieval by this web site.

The Axis 2100 Network Camera is a complete system consisting of a CCD camera and a stand-alone web server running on an embedded Linux OS. My home server extracts the current camera image once every minute during daylight. The weather camera image is archived at noon local time every day. I piggy-backed a LinkSys Wireless Bridge (802.11b) to the weathercam in order to make its network connection wireless.

All software was written by me and is available for free just for asking. The archive extraction scripts are written in C and Perl, and the web pages are written in PHP.
